Little Cypress and CYP Lower School – A frosty week!

We have had a really positive week at CYP Lower with everyone enjoying the frosty, sunny days.

In EYFS our youngest children in Little Cypress have been making sure they wrap up really warm when enjoying their time outside, taking great care getting their hats, scarves, coats and gloves on.  They have been learning all about the ‘Three Little Pigs’ and building houses out of straw, sticks and bricks and even playing with pigs in the mud!  Rainbows went on a listening welly walk around the school to identify sounds and explore our wonderful grounds.  Children in Reception have been really engaged in their Monster topic, creating their own monsters using junk models.  They have also been learning all about Chinese New Year and writing numbers in Chinese.  Gong hei fat choy to anyone celebrating Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rabbit this weekend!

This week in KS1 we have been Building our Learning Powers, understanding that asking questions helps us learn more.  Miss Wenham led assembly on Tuesday celebrating Martin Luther King day and we all learnt more about how he wanted to make sure that all Americans had the same rights, regardless of their race.  Year 1 had a really exciting ‘hands-on’ toy workshop on Monday where they were able to explore old toys and consider the differences between the past and present.  They have also been investigating different materials in science and discussing their properties.  Blue class decided to use natural materials to make portraits of Mrs Sorensen in Forest School this week and I’m sure you’ll agree the likeness is uncanny!  Year 2 have been reading twisted fairy tales and writing their own version of Little Red Riding Hood, changing the characters and endings.  In computing children have been learning about searching effectively using search engines such as ‘Google’.

What a busy week of learning at Cypress Lower!

Cypress Superstars

Well done to Ariella and Poppy in Reception for their very creative ‘monster’ art work this week – they are really embracing this topic!  In Year 1, Elham, Ivy, Bonnie, Jocelyn, Isla, James and Matipa have impressed us with their fantastic letters to Mrs Jenkins, thanking her for leading a toy workshop earlier in the week.  Ida and Oskar in Year 2 have written their own exciting Little Red Riding Hood fairy tales, complete with a unique twist!  Mateus in Year 2 has worked really hard on some independent maths calculations this week.

Reuben (Yr2) and Rose (Yr1) represented Cypress Lower School at the Pegasus poetry competition, held at Whitehorse Manor Junior School.  They walked to WHJUN and very bravely performed their poems in front of other children, staff and judges from other Pegasus schools.  Reuben said, “I enjoyed reading my poem – it was a bit scary but I set my mind to it and won a medal!” and Rose said, “I liked performing my poem and looking at the other performances.”  Well done, Reuben and Rose!  We are so proud of you.

We celebrated lots of children’s achievements in our Rainbow Assembly today at the Lower School.  Well done to Rowan and Clem for winning a Word of the Week rosette for using ‘question’ in a great sentence.  Next week our word is frost.

Morning drop-off polite reminder

Please ensure that your child is in class and ready to learn by 9am: this is when our lessons start promptly, after registration.  Teachers will close their classroom doors at 9am so if you do need to speak to them please do so before this time, after school or ask for an appointment.  Thank you for your support.
