CYP – Celebrating Teamwork

We began the week at the Lower School with an assembly from Mrs Jerman to launch ‘Walk to School Week‘.  We have been thinking about out Pegasus value ‘ We are safe, healthy and happy‘ to help use on our journeys to and from school. On Tuesday, we had an exciting assembly from Mrs Dutton to mark ‘ World Bee Day’ where we learnt about the importance of bees, what they give to the environment and how to take care of them.

On Monday, at the Upper School, we spent time reflecting on the importance of noticing and celebrating the achievements of others. We explored some of the reasons why people might sometimes hold back from recognising others’ successes, and discussed the many benefits that come from doing so, not just for individuals, but for the whole school community. We know that by showing kindness and taking the time to make others feel valued, we help create a more positive, supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

Crystal Palace Football Club Assembly

On Wednesday morning, the Upper School were treated to a truly wonderful assembly by a group of dedicated Crystal Palace fans – Evie, Gordon, Louis, Cruz, Ben, and Frank – who took us on a passionate journey through the proud history of their beloved club. From legendary players of the past to current stars lighting up Selhurst Park, they spoke with such knowledge and enthusiasm that it was impossible not to be swept along with them. The highlight came when the children in the audience joined in to sing the club anthem, ‘Glad All Over’ creating a real sense of unity and celebration. We all revelled in the glory of Crystal Palace’s first piece of silverware – a moment of pride for fans and community neutrals alike. The group also shared details of the upcoming bus parade, pointing out the planned route. It was heartening to see their love for the club shine through, and the assembly was truly appreciated by everyone in the Upper School. A special thank you must go to Ms Prideaux and Mr Shipley for supporting them in putting it all together so brilliantly.

Walk to School Week at Cypress

This week  we proudly took part in Walk to School Week, embracing the fun of this year’s challenge:The Great Space Walk. Pupils were encouraged to travel actively each day by walking, wheeling, scooting, cycling or using Park and Stride, while learning about the benefits for their health, community and the planet. We kicked off the week with an exciting assembly and saw brilliant participation across the school. A highlight was our creative competition: Years 3 and 4 designed imaginative pedestrian crossings, while Years 5 and 6 crafted walking shoes inspired by the five key themes – mental health, physical health, sustainability, road safety and community. The deadline for entries is today – we hope you got yours in! Winners will be announced next week. A big thank you to Ms Fernandes for organising this theme week.

Poetry Workshops with Mr Soboleswki

This week our Year 1 and 2 pupils have all taken part in workshops with one of our parents Steve Sobolewski, who came in to share his love of poetry.  He also came to inspire the children to enter the Pegasus Academy Trust Poetry Competition.  For the competition, children are invited to write a poem about summer and include some humour.  The children really enjoyed taking part in the workshops.  Thank you Steve for giving up your time to motivate and inspire the children at Cypress Lower.

At the Upper School, a big well done goes to Karter in Hazel Class – who has been refining his artistic talents and has created a picture of the sun and the moon and engaged in an interesting conversation with Ms Wayman about the rotation of the earth around the sun and the moon around the earth! Great art and interesting conversation, Karter!
