CYP: Celebrating Independent Learners

This week the children have been working hard on their thematic work and creating some fantastic artefacts ready to share at our ‘Cypress Museum Day’ today.  Thank you to all the children and staff for all your hard work.  The school looked fantastic and we were lucky to have so many parents and carers joining us.

At the Lower School, in our Safer Internet Day Assembly, we looked at the story of Mo and Jaz who love to play games online.  They started out having a great time playing ‘Hatch Me’ until they were messaged by someone and lost all their animals.  The children learnt that they should tell an adult if a message appears on their screen.  We also learnt not to use items in a game, such as a swap button, unless we understand how it works and that we cannot get the item back.  The children were all able to identify ‘safe adults’ they can go to if they see something that worries them online.

At the Upper School, we talked about how technology has developed over the years and the positive opportunities this brings. We also discussed that progress is helpful but we should always make safe and sensible choices while using it.  We also explored how the internet can change the way we think, positively or negatively when we are online and offline and things to remember to keep us safe us while we are surfing the internet. We know that we should shut a site down if we see something that makes us uncomfortable, and tell an adult. We also know that we can report worrying content online to the platform owners or if appropriate a body such as CEOP.

Cypress Superstars

Well done to Taroy and Oliver in Orange Class who have designed, made and described their monsters.  They have worked really hard and completed some great work.  Congratulations to Imogen, Rosie, Dejhonte and Omir in Blue Class who came to visit the office with some fantastic problem solving.  They have really challenged themselves and completed some tricky maths. We are so proud of you! Jocelyn, Bonnie and Luis in Ruby Class came to show their fantastic Tudor houses with moving flames.  They were able to explain how they had used a lever to make the flames move.  Well done both of you!

We wish all of our children and families a wonderful half term and look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 19th February.
