CYP – Being Methodical in our approach to learning

At the Upper School, we have been learning about the importance of being methodical in our approach to learning. To do this, we have using the following strategies in their learning: breaking things into smaller steps, making links with things we have learnt before to help us and organising notes to help us structure this thinking.  In the classroom, we have used the working wall, success criteria and examples to help us be methodical in our work.

We have had a busy week of learning at the Lower School.  On Monday Year 2 had a brilliant, immersive workshop about the Great Fire of London.  It’s been great hearing them eagerly share facts and new knowledge ahead of Thematic Week and Museum Day.  We look forward to welcoming parents and carers at the Lower School next Friday 6th February 9.10-10am for Museum Day.  On Monday KS1 learnt about respect and tolerance during assembly, considering the differences we all have between each other and how we can show kindness and understanding of these.

Year 4 Visit the Natural History Museum

On Wednesday, our Year 4 pupils visited the Natural History Museum in London to support their thematic learning.  The children took part in a volcano workshop and learnt lots of new information.  Next week, the children will be using this knowledge to help them create models of volcanoes which will be on display during our Pegasus Museum Day next Friday.  Thank you to all the parents and carers who gave up their time to come and support with the trip.

Hazel Class Assembly

We started the morning today with a fantastic assembly from Hazel Class.  They had worked as a team to write and produce their own assembly.  We were treated to the ‘Rainforest Rumble’ quiz with different rounds and questions that showcased the children’s learning in this topic. We also had brilliant reworking of ‘Green, Green Grass’ by George Ezra with new lyrics written by Ted and George.  What a fantastic way to showcase your learning!  Thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us for being an excellent audience.  Thank you also to Ms Wadham-Powell and Mrs Simadree for your hard work preparing the children for the assembly.

MHST Coffee Morning

Thank you to those who were able to attend our MHST (Mental Health Schools Team) event this Thursday.  We hope you found this useful.  Please click here if you’d like to see the presentation and find out more about the emotional wellbeing support available at Cypress via MHST.

Cypress Superstars

Well done to Adem, Malcolm, Joshua and Mia in Turquoise class for their fantastic descriptive writing about Little Red Riding Hood.  Myles in Indigo class has impressed everyone this week as he’s made HUGE progress in his phonics and we are very proud of him.  Tipi in Orange class used her sounds to write about Bog Baby and was able to read her writing back to Mrs Sorensen with great confidence – well done!  Sullivan in Orange class has independently written about an alien and a dinosaur engaging in a fight.  He used great letter formation and his learnt phonic sounds.  Check out the photo below to see who won!

Well done to Jessie and Alice in Beech Class who came to share their poem which they had written together.  You can listen to their performance below.

Congratulations to Arabella and Gideon in Beech Class who came to share their brilliant models of Tutankhamun they had made as part of their home learning.  Both models were beautifully constructed and included so much detail. You will be able to see them on display as part of ‘Museum Day’ next Friday.

Diary dates

Please keep an eye on the website calendar for our upcoming school and class events.  We try to give families as much notice as possible, so please keep a note of any key dates.

We wish all our children and families a good weekend.
