In English this week, Year One have continued to write their Tinga Tinga Tales.  In their writing, they ensured they used capital letters, full stops and a variety of adjectives and story language.  During maths, Year 1 have shared into equal groups and counted in 10s.  They have also created groups of 10 and shown multiples of 10 as arrays.  In science, they sorted animals into three groups (fish, birds and mammals) and discussed the similarities and differences between these animals.  In geography, the children discovered that Africa has different geographical features to the UK and they also designed their African mask ready to begin making next week.

In Year Two the children have been learning to measure in metres in their maths lessons.  They made paper aeroplanes and then took them outside to fly them.  They then recorded the distances travelled.  In their English lessons, the children have been learning and reciting poetry.  The children then performed the poem ‘Carnival Dance Lesson’ by John Lyons. In their RE lessons the children have been learning about Hindu mantras and writing their own.

This week, Year Three have been learning all about Roman numerals in maths.  They have also been reading the time on analogue clocks to minute. In English, the children have been using subordinating conjunctions when writing about the forest.  They have also been identifying the features of a persuasive text. In art, the children have been blending colours and thinking about tint, tone and shade to make a background for their Stonehenge picture which will be the cover of their thematic book.  Finally, the children have been continuing their work on light and shadow n Science.

Year Four have been recording amounts of money as decimals this week in their maths lessons.  They have also been studying the sort animation’ The Dream Giver’ as an inspiration for future writing.  In science, the children have learnt the parts of the digestive and their function and in PE the children have been practising the javelin.

This week, Year Five in maths have been using protractors to measure angles.  They have also been developing their geographical knowledge by learning about the biomes of Australia.  In science, they have been studying the various planets in the Solar System and in English the children have been preparing to write biographies.  Teal class finished off the week by sharing their learning about Crime and Punishment with a very informative class assembly.

This week, Year Six have completed their end of key stage two SATs.  We are incredibly proud of all the children.  Not only did they demonstrate all the maths and English knowledge they have accumulated on their journey through Atwood, they also showed focus, perseverance and resilience.  The children also got their new 2025 Leavers’ hoodies today.  They topped off the week with a trip to the park to let their hair down after a tough week.

 And finally…

For all those Palace fans who will be following the FA Cup Final on Saturday whether at Wembley or on the television – Good Luck!
