This week in Reception, the children have been learning about plants and how things grow. Instigating this investigation was a massive beanstalk growing in our creative room. When we returned to school the next day, we found the book, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ at the base of the plant, which explained how it had got there. While we did not have any magic beans, we did have plenty of real seeds so we got planting to see what we could produce. We compared the different seeds, looking at their size, colour and texture. We thought about what the seeds needed for them to grow. The children have been on a watering mission this week and have done a great job of making sure all of the plants have a drink. While we have been outside so much in this glorious weather, plenty of creatures have been discovered. We have discussed how important all creatures are for our planet and how we must care for them as they care for us in their way.
