To commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day at the Upper School we had a special assembly that took us on a journey through one of the most significant moments in history. We began with a powerful moment of reflection as we listened to Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s historic speech declaring Britain at war with Germany, followed by the haunting sound of air raid sirens that brought the reality of wartime Britain to life. We then watched a video that explained how the war came to an end and how people across Europe celebrated victory with immense relief and joy. While VE Day marks the triumph of peace in Europe, we also took time to remember the many who lost their lives and loved ones during the war. The assembly helped us reflect on the importance of peace and reminded us how vital it is to learn from the past, so the same mistakes are never repeated.
At the Lower School each class held their own VE day assembly in class. The children found out about, how, on the 8th May 1945, people across Britain and other countries around the world celebrated the end of World War II in Europe. We now understand that VE day stands for ‘Victory in Europe Day’. This day marked the moment when fighting in Europe stopped, and peace could begin again after years of conflict, hardship and loss. We learnt about the changes that happened after VE Day, why peace matters and how we can work together to protect peace in our world today.
Racket Sports Festival Y3/4
Miss Hassan took a group of Year 3 and 4 children to the Racket Sports Festival, where they enjoyed a carousel of activities led by specialist coaches. The children took part in cricket, rounders, tennis, and squash sessions. Each activity was engaging and full of fun, giving the children the chance to enjoy both familiar sports and try out some new ones.

Well done to Bonnie in Willow Class, who’s only won herself a spot in the Royal Academy of Art’s Young Artists’ Summer Show! Her artwork — both clever and creative — clearly caught the eye of the art world’s finest, and frankly, we’re not a bit surprised. Well done, Bonnie — we are very proud of you! Well done to Karter in Hazel Class, who has been putting his spare time to excellent use by creating thoughtful pieces of art, two of them inspired by our much-loved rainbow stickers. A quiet celebration of creativity and care — nicely done, Karter. We look forward to seeing more of your work.
Well done to Harry in Hazel Class, who along with his friends impressed the judges with their creative baking and won the Beano Golden Splat Award. Their entry in the Beano competition was as inventive as it was delicious — those cookies looked absolutely brilliant. We only hope you’ve saved us one, Harry!
Last week, children across the Upper School took part in the Mini Marathon event, running an impressive two miles around the playground. Everyone gave it their all, but it was Holly Class who recorded the fastest time — a fantastic achievement! To celebrate their speedy success, they were treated to a delicious fruit brunch, thoughtfully arranged by the wonderful Ms Hassan. Well done to Holly Class for their effort, energy, and enthusiasm!
