Welcome back to Cypress!

Welcome back to Cypress!  We hope everyone had a fabulous half term and we are really proud of our children returning to school and trying so hard with their learning this week.

At the Lower School this week we have been learning about how to keep safe on Bonfire Night, especially near fireworks and sparklers.  If you are going to see some fireworks this weekend then please wrap up warm, listen to your adults and keep safe.

At the Upper School children have been thinking about compassion and how important compassion is to live a happy life alongside others. We were also treated to an amazingly informative assembly by Beech class, where they shared the work they have been doing on the suffragette movement. They delivered impassioned speeches and rallied the us all to their cause. There were some rousing performances and also great artwork on display. Well done Beech class. Special thanks also to Ms Prideaux, Miss Wright and Ms Snedden for supporting the children to deliver a fantastic assembly. Children at the Upper School have been reminded in their classes of how to stay safe during this period.

Cypress Superstars

In line with our new behaviour policy, each classroom has a ‘recognition board’ where we celebrate children’s successes and achievements.  Each week, we (Mrs Sorensen and Mrs Carpenter) also have children coming to us to share their work and achievements and we love sharing this in our weekly news story.

At the Lower School we celebrated children in our Rainbow assembly who have had a great return to school this week – well done!  Kalishan, Maihan, Ailani, Gordon and Harper have been learning facts about Henry VIIIs six wives.  They were all confidently able to tell Mrs Sorensen a fact and share their learning.  Eve, Willow and Violaine came to share their writing this week.  Eve and Willow have been writing sentences using conjunctions and Violaine has written a fantastic poem.

At the Upper School, Clara came to see me with her wonderfully detailed portrait of Emmeline Pankhurst she had made for her class assembly. She worked for half an hour each day during the holidays and it shows! What a talent! Tyler, Ruben, Alex and Giorgia came to see me with their clay dinosaurs. They have paid used their knowledge of dinosaurs from their English work and paid attention to detail to create some wonderfully realistic figures!  Barney has been buy this week. He has created a Victorian menu fit for a prince. He has also been busy making an impressive Victoria sponge at home. He even brought in photos of him enjoying the best part – licking the spoon! Barney has also created a piece of artwork entitled ‘La Tropical’, inspired by the work of Henri Rousseau. I love your dedication to learning and creativity, Barney! Shen has also been busy creating a Victorian menu fit for royalty!  Great presentation, Shen!

Makaton Sign of the Week

We learn a new Makaton sign every week at the Lower School and this week we have learned the sign for frightened. Click here for how to sign the word frightened.
