Over the past two days, we welcomed parents and carers from our Year 2 and Reception classes to our Reading Café. It was so pleasing to see so many of our lovely families turn up for the event. We spoke about the importance of reading to your child as it allows children to focus their attention, soak up the words, pursue meaning in narrative and turn the whole experience into pictures in their minds. It was a great opportunity to chat through ideas of how we can make reading at home a special, fun time with our children.
After a short presentation, we invited the children into the hall for a story with their families. It was such a pleasure to be a room full of chatter, laughter and enjoyment. I enjoyed watching many happy memories being made and everyone left the hall with a smile on their faces.
We have been so pleased with how successful the Reading Café mornings have been and we are looking to make them a weekly feature in our schools. Please look out for more information shortly.
