Welcome back to Cypress!

It’s been a fabulous (and incredibly hot!) week at Cypress as we’ve welcomed back children in Years 1 to 6.  We have been amazed at how much you’ve all grown over the holidays and it’s been a pleasure to see everyone looking so smart in their uniforms.

A big welcome to our new Cypress families!  We know that you and your child will love being part of our Cypress community.  Please do ask our staff if you have any questions.  Next week our children in Reception start full time.

The staff in Little Cypress have enjoyed meeting all the children who will be starting next week in Rainbows and Nursery, as well as having conferences with their parents/carers. Both Rainbows and Nursery children will be joining us over the course of the week, staggered according to their age.

Revised behaviour policy

This week we sent out a letter about our revised behaviour policy from this September.  Thank you for the positive feedback we’ve already received about these changes.  Please click these links to read the letter and our updated behaviour policy.  Along with our ‘Pegasus People’ values which are displayed in each classroom, we now also have ‘The Terrific Trio’: Kind actions, kind thoughts, kind words.

Recognition boards

In line with our new behaviour policy, each classroom has a ‘recognition board’ where we celebrate children’s successes and achievements.  Each week, we ( Mrs. Sorensen and Mrs. Carpenter) also have children coming to us to share their work and achievements and we love sharing this in our weekly news story.

At the Lower School this week we were pleased to celebrate children in our Rainbow assembly today, who have been remembering the ‘Terrific Trio’: Kind actions, kind thoughts, kind words.  Well done everyone!  Jacob in Blue class showed great resilience when completing his work where he thought about some of his favourite things.  In Turquoise class, Ailani and Kane working hard to partition 2-digit numbers and Ivy and Corey have painted excellent watercolour backgrounds for their upcoming Tudor portraits.

Studybugs

We use Studybugs at Cypress as our main way of sending out information, letters and correspondence to families and try to avoid sending paper letters out wherever possible.  We encourage all families to download the Studybugs App.  If you are new to Cypress or unfamiliar with Studybugs then please read more here.

Diary dates

We are in the process of updating the calendar with key dates for this term.  Please keep an eye on the website!  We will also be sending our curriculum newsletters in every year group which will have some key dates for this term.

Debbie Taylor

It is with great sadness that we write to inform you that over summer, Debbie Taylor, a highly respected and much loved Cypress Teaching Assistant, has died.  She had become increasingly unwell over the last few years and had been absent from work since 2020.  Debbie Taylor worked at Cypress Lower School for 28 years and her son Lennon was a pupil here.  Over her many years of dedicated service, she worked as part of the inclusion team supporting children with additional needs or SEND.  Over the summer holidays a great number of Cypress staff, past and present, attended Debbie’s funeral which is a testament to how well respected she was.  The staff, children and Cypress community will all remember Debbie Taylor for her commitment, hard work and kindness towards the children.

We hope everyone has a very well deserved rest this weekend after a busy first week back at school!
