We are resourceful learners at Cypress!

This week at the Upper School, we have been learning to be resourceful and considering what makes us resourceful learners.  In assembly on Monday, Ms Binks shared a video of Wallace and Gromit making a ‘Turbo Diner’.  We used our ‘noticing’ and ‘making links’ skills to identify what Wallace had done to be resourceful and could identify how he had solved problems and used some old items to make something new.

Rowan Class treated us to a wonderful assembly this morning.  They shared with us how they have been using their Building Learning Power skills in PE and maths.  We were treated to some amazing ‘Afro Beat’ dance routines and a super explanation of how to use reasoning skills to solve a maths problem.  The children also gave a wonderful performance of ‘Level Up’ which had everyone in the hall joining in.  A huge thank you to all our parents and carers who were able to join us and also to Ms Stewart and Ms Sabih for all your hard work putting the assembly together.

Our incredible Christmas hoops have gone up in the Lower School hall this week and we think they’re the best we’ve ever made!  Well done to the our amazing children and talented staff for their hard work.

We celebrated lots of children’s achievements in our Rainbow assembly today at the Lower School.  Well done to Caleb in Year 2 for winning a Word of the Week rosette.  Next week our word is festive. At the Upper School, Sebastian from Larch class won the Word Wizard Rosette for using the word ‘feud’; in an ambitious sentence. This week the word is discerning. Get your entries in before 9:00am to be in with a chance to win!  Well done to all of our Rainbow winners this week at Upper!

Seve the Cypress Superdog!

Seve visited the Upper School on Tuesday and Wednesday this week and had a ‘pawsome’ time.  He visited Sycamore class on Tuesday and spent some time with the children on the playground.  On Wednesday, Seve heard lots of children read and had some visitors for nurture.  He was so well-behaved that Martyna and Elif awarded him a Rainbow.  Seve also went back to Miss Chapman with some drawings from Elif, Taylor and Kerim who had enjoyed spending time with him.  On Monday Seve joined Mrs Sorensen assembly at the Lower School.  We learnt all about Seve’s Golden Rules and how we can all help Miss Chapman to care for him.  Seve is quickly becoming the most popular member of staff at Cypress!

Cypress Superstars

Lower School – Well done to our Year 2 children (too many names to mention!) for their amazing Henry VIII posters!  Did you know Henry VIII sometimes ate 14 course meals?!  Joanna, Amari, Ife and Lenka have written great fact files about Space this week.  Green class were true ‘Pegasus People’ displaying excellent behaviour and manners on their trip to the Science Museum on Tuesday.

Upper School – Well done to Elif, Martyna and Mia who came to the office to share the leaves they had been sewing during Life Skills lessons.  Congratulations to Ethan and Tosca who produced some detailed sketches of trees in their art lesson.  Finally, well done to Olivia, Samuel, Olive, Ezra, Tess, Zephaniah, Safia and Jack who came to show their paper hats they had made based on the work of the designer ‘Coco Chanel’.  We have some very talented pupils at the Cypress Upper.

Christmas performances, lunch and fundraising

Please make a note of the arrangements and dates for our Christmas performances: Little Cypress, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and Year 5.  We are collecting new toys and gifts for the Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal, who will then distribute these to vulnerable local families.  We are also supporting Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 9th December.
