British Library

Year 4 recently enjoyed an exciting and inspiring trip to the British Library as part of their work on writing their own fairy tales.

The children were immersed in the magical world of storytelling as they explored a fascinating exhibition filled with well-known fairy tale stories and props. From enchanted mirrors and mysterious potion bottles to magical genies and the famous troll’s bridge, there was something to capture everyone’s imagination. The children also had the opportunity to try on fairy tale costumes, helping them step into the shoes of some of their favourite characters.

One particularly special moment was seeing a Ukrainian fairy tale transcript shared by one of our children, highlighting the rich variety of stories from different cultures and backgrounds.

As part of the visit, each class enjoyed a storytelling session from a London-based author.

The engaging and interactive story by Alim Kamara captivated the children and adult from start to finish. A special shout-out goes to the children who were selected to take part in the role play during the story – they embraced their roles brilliantly and helped bring the tale to life for everyone.

The trip provided plenty of inspiration for the children’s own fairy tale writing and it was wonderful to see them so engaged, curious and enthusiastic throughout the day.

A huge thank you to all of our parent helpers who supported us on the visit. Your help and encouragement made the day possible and ensured that it ran smoothly for everyone involved.
