whinf Roaring Dinosaurs and Super Subitising!

Happy New Year!

This week in Reception we have been using the book Meet the Dinosaurs to support our learning. The children have loved exploring different types of dinosaurs and finding out interesting facts about how they lived. We have been developing our vocabulary by learning new dinosaur names and describing their size, colour and features. In literacy, we shared the story together, talked about what we could see and practised using full sentences. We also enjoyed dinosaur-themed activities across the curriculum, including counting, sorting, drawing and creative play.

In Reception this week, we have been developing our maths skills by practising subitising numbers to 6. The children have been learning to recognise quantities without counting, using a range of fun and practical activities. We explored dot patterns, dice faces and number cards, encouraging the children to say how many they could see straight away. Through games and group work, the children are becoming more confident in recognising numbers quickly and explaining how they know.
