CYP LOWER – Sandwiches and Celebrations in Little Cypress!

Cress Sandwiches

We only had a short week due to the May Bank Holiday, but we have certainly packed a lot in to these four days! Our Cress Mountain had sprouted magnificently over the weekend and we cut the fruits of our labour (the mustard and cress) and made some delicious sandwiches. We buttered the bread ourselves and sprinkled on the greenery before tasting. Most of us thought the sandwiches were very tasty! Once we had finished making our sandwiches, we used the leftover mountains as a base for dinosaur small worlds, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Commemorating VE Day

This week marked 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe; more commonly known as VE Day. We learned about how the nation celebrated the end of years of hardship and conflict and were particularly interested in hearing about how so many children were evacuated on trains to the countryside to avoid the danger of bombing in the cities. We learned how to sign the words ‘VE Day’ in Makaton. Please click here to see how to do this.

Blake made amazing links in her prior learning, after watching a clip of the fly past for VE day with the coloured smoke coming from the back of the aeroplanes, by noticing that:

“It’s like celebrating Holi but a different kind of show!”

What a brilliant link to the coloured powder that we saw in the Hindu Holi celebrations, Blake!

Amelie remembered that:

“It was not safe for the children in the cities!”

In Rainbows we made VE Day bracelets and in Nursery we used a salad spinner to create amazing patterns using red, white and blue paint.

Rainbows also had lots of fun using the scissors to cut up some leftover flowers that Miss Harvey brought in and mixing them to made magic potions!

Rainbow Certificates

A huge well done to our Rainbow Certificate winners this week: Lucas, Theia and Eniola!

We hope you all enjoy the weekend.
