CYP LOWER: Books, books, everywhere in Little Cypress!

Celebrating Book Week

In Little Cypress, we love books! Books are a vital part of our everyday experiences and we come together as a class at least twice a day to share stories and enjoy a wide range of children’s literature, including Fairy Tales, poems, Nursery Rhymes and many, many books! It was extra special, then, to dedicate a whole week to a love of reading. And what a week it has been!

Both Rainbows and Nursery were lucky enough to have a storyteller, Grace Francis come to visit. She had all the children mesmerised by her retelling of the classic Fairy Tale: Little Red Riding Hood. The children were completely engrossed and lost in the story that included music, actions and children taking on the different characters. Just fantastic!

Our three Year 3 classes at Upper joined us in Little Cypress for Buddy Reading and the older children were so kind and gentle to Rainbows and Nursery and siblings and non-siblings shared a variety of books and modelled fantastic reading behaviours.

Thursday was really fun as it was World Book Day and the children dressed up in a wide range of costumes related to their favourite books, as well as comfy clothes such as pyjamas, slankets and slippers. We had Little Red Riding Hoods, Supertato, two Very Hungry Caterpillars, a Smoo, and astronaut, a Bunnycorn, two Gruffalos, Angelina Ballerinas, Tigers who came to Tea, the witch from Room on the Broom amongst many others.

Mother’s Day

This week saw the build up to Mother’s Day when we thought about our mummies and why we love them. We had some amazing responses, including: “I love my mummy so much, because she is in my heart!” from Innes. How wonderful!

Both Rainbows and Nursery have made some beautiful cards to give their mummies on Mother’s Day this Sunday.

Makaton Sign of the Week

As usual, we have learned a new Makaton sign this week. It is very relevant for this week as the word is ‘book’. Click here to see how to sign the word book.

So, the end of another fun-packed and happy week draws to a close and we hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Happy Reading Everyone!
