What a week we have had in Reception! The children have dazzled us with their creativity and superb writing skills. As part of our topic, ‘Once Upon a Time’, we have looked at the book, ‘You Choose – Fairy tales!’ Inside its pages, there are lots of different options to choose from to create your own story. Each day, we looked at a different set of pages and wrote a section of our own stories. We learned that narratives have a beginning, a middle and an end. On Monday, we chose a character and a setting to write about for the beginning. On Tuesday, we selected a baddie and a problem for our middle section and on Wednesday we decided who would come to help solve the tribulation. On Thursday, the children designed their front covers and on Friday we acted out many of the tales. The children were all very proud of themselves for being ‘published’ authors with their books.
In other news, our tadpoles are growing back legs, which has been very exciting to observe. This has generated lots of discussion about the lifecycle of a frog and the other animals that go through metamorphosis. The blue tits have moved back into our bird box and are busy zooming back and forth building their nest. Finally, the Reading Cafe was popular in Yellow class this week. It was so lovely to have lots of adults giving their time to promote the love of reading with our young learners.
