The new Reception children have settled so quickly and well; we are incredibly proud of them. They are all confidently exploring their new setting and have made many new friends. The outdoor areas have been popular with children running around and having fun. The children have been working collaboratively to build models with the new bricks that were recently purchased. In class, the children have been expressing their creativity by creating representations of their faces using various media such as paints, colouring pencils and natural objects. They are demonstrating that they feel safe and secure by being brave during learning time to share their ideas and news.
Phonic lessons have started well, and the children have learned the sounds ‘s’, ‘a’, ‘t’ and ‘p’ this week. Our thematic learning has been based around the book, ‘So Much!’ by Trish Cooke. The children have been greeting each other in various ways and have thought about what they would like to do with the baby from the story if they were to meet them. In mathematics, our focus has been on subitising the numbers 1, 2 and 3. We then moved on to counting skills. The children helped teach our class puppets how to improve their counting by giving them lots of helpful advice.
