This week, our Reception classes have stepped back in time as part of our exciting learning about dinosaurs, history and museums. Using the wonderful book ‘Meet the Dinosaurs’ by Caryl Hart, the children have been discovering fascinating facts about different dinosaurs, learning how we know about the past and exploring how museums help us to look after and learn from important historical finds. There has been lots of curious questioning, imaginative play and dinosaur-themed talk across the classroom.
In phonics, we are proud to share that the children have begun moving onto Phase 3 sounds in the Little Wandle phonics programme. This week, we have been learning the sounds ai, ee, igh and oa. The children have shown great enthusiasm when practising reading and writing words using these new sounds.
In PE, we have started our new gymnastics unit. The children have been learning and practising different body shapes and positions, including pike, straddle and star. They have worked hard on balance, control and listening to instructions, showing fantastic focus and determination.
Well done to all our Reception learners for a brilliant week of discovery and growth! They have settled straight back into the routine of the school day after their two week festive break.
