We were scientists this week!
Whilst learning all about the colours in the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet), we have taken on the role of rainbow scientists! Each day, we have made a rainbow in a different way. On Monday, we used skittles and warm water to make a dissolving and diffusion experiment. On Wednesday, we used kitchen roll, pens and water to grow our own rainbow. On Thursday, we did a heat transfer experiment using crayons and a hair dryer! After each experiment we spoke about what had happened and why we thought that had happened. eg, the heat melted the crayons into a liquid form, which meant the colour could run and the water dissolves the coloured sugar to separate the colours to make a rainbow. The children had some great answers. However, my favourite answer was ‘we BLASTED the crayons with hot air!!’ They’ll make great scientists one day!
In mathematics, we have continued exploring shapes. This week, we learnt all about triangles. The children have enjoyed singing the triangle song and hunting for triangles in the classroom. They now know that triangles have 3 sides.
Our sound of the week is ‘t’. Items the children put in our sound box included; tiger, teddy, triangle, tape and toast!
