CYP Lower – managing our distractions

We hope our parents/carers found their parents’ evening meetings useful this week and that you’ve got some targets and ideas of how to further support your child.  A big thank you to our wonderful teachers for leading these meetings.

This week in assembly we discussed the importance of managing distractions when thinking about Building Learning Powers, so that we could always focus on our learning.  Children thought carefully about what might distract them and considered various strategies to overcome this.  Today we celebrated children who have been awarded Rainbows this week and announced our Word of the Week champions, Isaac (Ruby class), Amani (Violet class), Ida (Blue class) and Leo (Blue class).  Next week’s word is support – get those entries into the golden box!

Turquoise class led our first ‘in person’ class assembly on Thursday, teaching us all about Harvest.  Well done Turquoise class and please click here to see photos and a video of their fabulous singing.  We are still collecting Harvest donations in the school office so please donate if you can and these will be sent which will be donated to Croydon Food Bank after half term.

Our School Council met with Miss Wenham on Thursday and had a very productive meeting, considering fundraising ideas for Children In Need this November.  I know they’ve been busy creating posters and letters to publicise this fundraising event so watch this space!

Our year 1 classes trekked to Upper Norwood Library this week where they enjoyed a lively storytelling session and had the chance to borrow some books.  Thank you to our parent/carer volunteers for supporting us on these visits.  Click here to see some photos of their visits this week and find out more.  Our year 2 classes have been reading ‘Baboon on the Moon’ and have written some incredible sentences with ambitious verbs.  They have also been discussing the importance of having a healthy lifestyle, thinking about their diet and ways to keep fit.

Next week we will be celebrating Black History Month and have a packed timetable of learning and special events, including djembe drumming, storytelling and exciting activities in class.  On Friday 22nd October, in celebration of Black History Month, we will have a non-uniform day.  Children can wear clothing which reflects their culture, wear bright colours or get their party clothes on!  Please bring £1 for school funds.

Year 2 children are visiting Hampton Court Palace next Thursday 21st October so please ensure they arrive at school at 8.30am, wearing full uniform and carrying an empty backpack to carry their packed lunch in.  If you haven’t yet contributed for this trip then please do so via Magic Booking.  We can’t wait to hear more about their adventures!

We hope everyone enjoys a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
