Cypress News – Friday 8th May

At the Upper School this week, we have marked David Attenborough’s 100th birthday with a special assembly celebrating his life and work.  We discovered the places he has visited, how he has inspired others and why he is considered a ‘living legend.’  We ended the assembly by thinking about what the world might be like when we are 100 years old. We all agree he is an inspiration to us all!

At the Lower School on Tuesday, Mrs Dutton led assembly on Fair Trade and food.  Mrs Dutton showed the children what the fair trade logo looked like and how to spot it on food packaging. We have also marked David Attenborough’s 100th birthday and learnt more about his life and inspirational work.

Year 2 visits the Centre for Wildlife Gardening

Year 2 have been out and about this week visiting the Centre for Wildlife Gardening in East Dulwich.  This forms part of their learning about habitats in science.  To read more about this visit, please see our article here

Key Stage 2 SATs next week

Next week our Year 6 pupils will be sitting their SATs.  We are so proud of their hard work and commitment to their learning.  As a result the children have made great progress this year.  The school will be open for breakfast from Monday to Thursday at 8:15 a.m. so the children can have something to eat and chat with their friends.  Please ensure your child gets plenty of rest and relaxation this weekend and they arrive in school, on time, every day next week.

Buddy reading

We welcomed children from Sycamore class to our Saplings library at the Lower School this week.  Children had a chance to buddy up and share a book with one another.  It was lovely to welcome Year 5 back to the Lower School and see how they have all grown!  Thank you for your kindness and care when sharing a book with children in Year 1.

Cypress Superstars

It’s been a busy week with lots of superstars at Cypress sharing their wonderful learning.  Sofian in Beech Class came to see me with his brilliant writing about Wolf Brother.  His description and imagery meant Ms Binks could really picture the setting and understand Torak’s feelings.  What a fantastic piece of writing! Isobel in Sycamore Class created an amazing model of a ducking stool as part of her home learning.  She had also researched some very interesting facts.  Well done to Cillian, Louis and Freddie in Willow Class who designed, made and launched their own rocket outside of school.  What great initiative! Congratulations to Tom, Bea and Cayla in Oak Class who have produced some excellent descriptive writing as part of their English work,

Maddie in Indigo Class shared her fantastic homework based on the Year 1 topic Africa.  We were very impressed with your map and wonderful African elephant model!  Well done to Logan, Robyn, Freya, Isaiah, Flynn, Zen and Louis for their fantastic postcards, writing as if they were children visiting the seaside in the past.  We were super impressed with children in Green Class for their colourful, detailed African mask designs.  Great work Rose, Sophia, Theo and Leon!
