At the Lower School, we have learnt about different people who help us. Mrs Gilbert led assembly on Tuesday and we considered how people in our school and wider community could help us. Reception have been immersing themselves in learning about ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and have been planting runner bean, cress, sweet pea and sunflower seeds with the help of Ronnie’s Dad. Year 1 have been creating their own Tinga Tinga tales and we are so impressed with their writing! Year 2 enjoyed a fabulous Victorian seaside workshop on Monday and have been busy creating the most beautiful seascapes used mixed media in art and DT.
At the Upper School, we have been focusing on the importance of sharing. We looked at the story of ‘The Squirrels who Squabbled’ and discussed Cyril and Bruce who lost their fir cones because they were not willing to share. The children came up with some brilliant ideas of what they would have said or done to resolve the problem in a different way. We concluded that sometimes sharing can be hard but that we all have strengths that can help us to be successful when we collaborate with others. We have thinking about this when we have been collaborating with others this week.
Joe Wicks Big School Workout
Our Year 1 and 2 classes took part in the Big School Workout this week. Children (and staff!) loved moving their bodies and learning about how exercise can help to boost our mood, build resilience and support our mental wellbeing.
Year 5 and Year 1 Buddy Reading
Our Year 5 and Year 1 pupils have had a fantastic time buddy reading in Saplings library at the Lower School. The Year 5 pupils were so nurturing and encouraging to Year 1 and the younger children really enjoyed reading with them. It was so lovely to see our children working together across the two sites and sharing their mutual love of reading.
Year 6 SATs
A huge well done to our Year 6 pupils who have taken their Key Stage Two SATs tests this week. We are so proud of the resilience, determination and commitment you have shown in a very busy week, You have also shown excellent self-control in your behaviour in class and around the school. Thank you for being such good role models to our other pupils. Today, Year 6 are heading out to the O2 to enjoy a day of clip and climb and bowling with their friends.
Cypress Superstars
Well done to Henry, Paula, Juno, Malcolm, Mildred and Sammy in Year 2 for their amazing seascape art. The children used mixed media and incorporated 3D elements with different materials to really bring their seascapes to life. There are some amazing displays in our Year 2 classrooms so please pop in and take a look! Sophia, Lila and Makari in Green Class have worked so hard writing their Tinga Tinga tales. They have used adjectives, appropriate story language and wonderful illustrations to bring their writing to life. Check out their writing in the images below! Well done to Wilfred and Dennis in Indigo Class who have been retelling their own Tinga Tinga tales with great enthusiasm and pride. We are very proud of you!

PTFA update
The PTFA are busy planning this year’s Summer Fair, Cyp-Fest on Saturday 20th June, and we’re looking for some talented members of our school community to get involved! One of our parents, a Grammy Award winning mixer and producer, is putting together a live band especially for the fair and is looking for musicians who might like to join in and perform as part of the line up on the day. We’d also love to hear from any existing bands, duos or solo performers within our community who would like to play a set. Alongside the music, we’re looking for face painters who could volunteer a slot painting children’s faces during the fair, as well as general volunteers to help make the day a success. If you’d like to get involved in any way, please email us at hello@cypress-ptfa.org. We’d love to hear from you!
We wish all our children and families a lovely weekend.
Ms Binks, Mrs Sorensen and the Cypress Team
