CYP: We are Pegasus People

It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of another school year.  We are so proud of all our children and the magnificent achievements they have made in all areas of their learning.  We would like to thank all our staff for their hard work and commitment to the children of Cypress and all our families for their continued support.

Reading Tree

Well done to all the children who have completed their daily 20 minutes reading every day this term and were entered into the reading raffle to win a book.  At the Upper School, the classes who had read the most and have enjoyed a reading cafe this week in class are: Cedar, Lime, Sycamore and Larch.

At the Lower School, Ruby and Indigo class enjoyed a PJ reading morning as a special treat for having the most regular readers in their class.  We are so proud of all of our children who read regularly and they received a special bookmark this week – scan the QR code to hear one of our teachers reading a story to you!  Well done to those children who won books in our raffle.

Remember to keep reading over the holidays and join in the ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ at your local library if you can.

Year 2 Leavers’ Assembly

On Thursday afternoon, Year 2 had everyone’s in tears as they performed their Leavers’ Assembly at the Lower School.  Every child shared their favourite memories of being in the Lower School and we were treated to three wonderful songs.  It was a joy to see everyone dressed up as what they want to be when they’re older!  We had dentists, actors, footballers, architects and even a palaeontologist!  We are so proud of our Year 2 children and it’s emotional to see them move over the road to the Upper School.  Some of them have been with us since they were 2 years old in Rainbows!  We wish everyone the very best of luck when they join Year 3.  Please come back and visit us!

Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly

We began the day today with a fantastic but emotional Leavers’ assembly from Year 6.  They reflected on their memories from their time in school.  We heard the school year as an alphabet and a wonderful poem about their time in primary school.  We were treated to a wonderful song written by Jimmy in Beech Class who accompanied the children on the guitar and a new version of ‘Moving to Fast’ with lyrics rewritten by Ms Wright.  We really enjoyed seeing the children’s baby photos and seeing how much they have grown.  The children have had a wonderful year and really grown in confidence and ability.  We know they are ready and well-prepared for the new start in their new school and hope they will keep in touch as they start their new life in secondary school.  Thank you to all the staff who have supported these children on their journey through Cypress.

PTFA Summer Fair update

A HUGE thank you to our incredible PTFA for their support, hard work and commitment to Cypress this year.  The rain did not stop them and with support from Cypress friends and families, we have raised a whopping £4,375.81!!  Thank you to everyone for contributing.  We are so lucky to have such an amazing parent community at Cypress.

Goodbye and Good Luck

We have a number of staff leaving us for new roles and new opportunities and we would like to thank them for all they have done in their time in at Cypress.  Please know that all of you have made a difference to the lives of so many young people and have created memories that will stay with them for life.

Firstly, we say goodbye to Mr Cheyne has worked on our site team for 16 years keeping our school safe, tidy and clean.  He’s leaving Cypress for retirement and a very well deserved break!  We wish him all the best but know he’ll still pop in to see us all.  Thank you for your years of service, Mr Cheyne!

We say farewell to Ms McLelland whose support and expertise as our Inclusion Manager have been greatly appreciated by all our children, families and staff at Cypress.  We wish her all the best in her new role as an Assistant Headteacher and thank her for her commitment to all the children at Cypress.  You will be greatly missed.

At the Upper School we say goodbye to Mrs O’Connor who is leaving for an exciting new role in a new school.  Miss Khatun is moving to teach Key Stage One at Brigstock and we wish her all the best in her new role.  She is joined there by Miss Sabih who is moving to gain further experience and pursue her ambition of becoming a teacher.  We also say farewell and thank you to Ms Challacombe and Miss Banks who are moving on to new roles in new schools.

At the Lower school, we say goodbye to Miss Wenham who is moving to teach Key Stage Two at Atwood, another one of our Pegasus schools, which is closer to her home.  Miss Wenham is also getting married this Summer (eeeek!) so we had a very special wedding ceremony in assembly this morning to celebrate (ask your children who she got married too… clue: woof!).  Ms Nicholson has worked 1:1 with one of our Yr2 children this year and we wish her all the best in her future ventures.  Ms Claridge has been the Teaching Assistant in Red class since January and is leaving us to go back to her studies.

Welcome

We welcome back Mrs Carpenter from maternity leave as she returns to her role of Head of School at the Upper School.

Mrs Ebrahim will be taking on the role of Inclusion Manager across both the Lower and Upper schools and we look forward to working with her in this new role in September.

At the Lower School we welcome Miss Ellis who will be teaching Ruby class and Miss Rutter who will be teaching Indigo class.  We also have some new Teaching Assistants joining us: Ms Cook in Little Cypress, Mr Sobolewski in Turquoise class and Mrs Dorcu in Reception.

We also welcome to the Upper School, Miss Fernandes who is joining us from Brigstock to teach Holly Class and become the new Year 3 Lead.  Ms Corbet will also be joining us to teach Birch Class alongside Ms Sterling.  We also have two new teaching assistants.  Mr Nicol, who will be working in Year 3 and Miss Brooks who will be joining the Year 4 team.

We wish all of our families and restful and relaxing summer and look forward to seeing you back in school in September.  Thank you for a fabulous year!
