CYP Upper: Lest we Forget…

On Tuesday, Armistice Day, the House Captains delivered a very emotive and personal assembly at the Upper School. They explained the significance of Armistice Day, why we hold our Remembrance assembly, and the importance of observing a two-minute silence. They also explored how different cultures remember fallen soldiers, both in the world wars and in other conflicts around the world. Their thoughtful and poignant message helped everyone reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served.

After the assembly, we made our way down to the lower playground. The House Captains shared two poems, and every class laid a poppy wreath that the children had created themselves. Each poppy contained a written message to those who have fallen in war, expressing gratitude for their sacrifice and hope for the future. We sang the song ‘Remember’ by Emily Barden, in memory of the sacrifices made for us.Please see our video of this below. We then observed the two-minute silence and then listened quietly to ‘The Last Post’. The children were reflective as they thought about the lives given in past conflicts and those still serving in conflicts today.

We would like to thank the House Captains and Ms Fernandes for leading such a wonderful and thoughtful assembly, and Ms Prideaux for organising the resources for our class wreaths, which we have displayed in memory of those who have given their lives.
