CYP UPPER – Black History Month Learning in Y5

Y5 have been really enjoying their Black History Month learning this week, especially the fantastic stories we have heard each afternoon from different staff members. If you haven’t seen them, make sure you check the class blogs as they should be saved there.

On Wednesday, we were treated to an extra story from Usifu Jalloh, who in his online story, transported us all to the Sahara desert and told us about a princess who could not dance. All the children got involved with the story telling, as they had to sing along and perform some impressive moves to help Usifu along. At the end of the story, Usifu was kind enough to answer some questions too, which the children really enjoyed as well.

For our BHM celebrations, we have been focusing on the forgotten soldiers of WWI and the children have been really absorbed in this learning. To help them remember all the people who have not been remembered for their service in the past, all the children made beautiful, black poppies.

We proudly paraded them, as well as our banners, in out carnival celebration this afternoon too, which was so much fun! Please make sure you do ask your child about their week and the carnival, as it has been fantastic!

We hope you all have a wonderful half term break and see you for Autumn 2!
