CYP Lower – A great start to the new half term

Welcome back!  We hope that everyone had a lovely half term and it’s been great to see all of our children return to school so enthusiastically this week.  Seeing a glimpse of sunshine and beautiful daffodils popping up is really giving us all a spring in our step!

This week we have been thinking about Building our Learning Powers and the importance of planning ahead when approaching tasks at home and at school.  Well done to those children who received Rainbow certificates this week and to the Word of the Week champions for using the word ‘windy’ in a super sentence.  Next week the Word of the Week is surprised.

Reception have started their new Reading Practice groups this week and have also been learning about ‘people who help us’.  We have seen some great number bonds to 20 work in Year 1 as well as some engaging poetry performances – scan the QR code below to see one of their performances!  Unfortunately due to the weather Year 2 were unable to visit London on Thursday but we made the best of the situation by having classroom picnics, games and getting started on DT projects.  We have rescheduled this trip and will send out new letters next week.

We are all very excited for BOOK WEEK 2022!  Please click here to read the newsletter for more information.  This year our theme is WE LOVE POETRY!  Each year group has a poet coming to visit and we will be hosting assemblies and workshops to really immerse the children in poetry.  Every class will be learning a poem to perform at our Friday Poetry Slam!  Many of our visiting poets are also holding book signings after school and we also have the Scholastic Book Fair opening on Thursday 3rd March, will be based at the Upper School.  We would prefer payments to be made by cash, however there is an option to use a QR code to pay for books online.  All proceeds from book sales will support the brand new Upper School library.  World Book Day is on Thursday 3rd March and children (and staff!) are welcome to dress up as any character from their favourite book.  We can’t wait to see everyone’s costumes!  Many thanks to Mrs Parker for her hard work organising our Book Week and to our wonderful PTFA for funding our visiting authors and poets.

Every day a member of our Pegasus Leadership Team will be sharing a poem for Book Week!  Please check out the website page here.

Our Lower School Pupil Council held a bake sale after school today and we will reveal how much they raised next week.  Thank you to Miss Wenham for leading the School Council and supporting the children to lead their very own fundraising event.  The School Council will meet soon to decide how they will spend their funds to improve playground games and equipment.

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and makes the most of the sunshine!

Mrs Sorensen and the CYP Lower Team
