Last week, we celebrated Black History Month, with a key focus on recognising and celebrating the invaluable contributions and achievements of black men and women through history. The theme this year was ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride’. We decorated the school with banners and streamers.
Children had the opportunity to learn about key people, listen to stories and music.
Reception- Bob Marley
Year 1- Mae Jemison
Year 2- Marcus Rashford and Garett Morgan (the inventor famous for creating traffic lights)
Each afternoon, a member of staff shared a story with the whole school. I kick started the week off with a story about Rosa Parks, Mrs Allen told the children all about Mae Jamison, Mrs Janes read a story about Marcus Rashford and Mr Smith read Change Sings and then ended the week singing 3 songs. It was fantastic and the children loved it!
We ended the week with a celebratory ‘Show and Tell’ assembly and everyone dressed in red for ‘Show Racism the red Card’. The hall was packed to the rafters with parents/carers. It was so lovely to see so many of you there and to see the wonderful work and singing at Beulah Infants. We were also very lucky to have Reception singing ‘Three Little Birds’ by Bob Marley. The singing from the whole school was great.
Well done everyone!
