Despite it being a shorter week, the children have still been extremely busy.
In Nursery, the children have been using their problem-solving skills thinking about a bus stuck in hole.

This week, Reception the children have continued to immerse themselves in traditional tales.
This week, Year One have been writing more of their African animal story using specific verbs to describe how their animals are moving from place to place. They have also come up with some exciting adjectives to describe the animals in the story. In maths, the children have been grouping and counting in twos. They have used arrays to help count larger numbers in twos. In computing, the children have been adding sound to their animated e books, even recording their own voices! As part of geography, the children looked for different countries on a map of Africa and looked at what was north, south, east and west of each country.
In Year Two in their thematic lessons, the children have been creating beautiful seascape pictures for their books and in maths they have been developing their understanding of time by mastering being able to tell when the clock is showing o’clock, half past and even quarter past the hour! In other important subjects PSHE and RE, the children focused on how to value friendship and developing their understanding of the religion Hinduism.
This week, in Year Three the children have been researching all about Stonehenge and using a range of pencils to draw the famous site with a variety of shading techniques. In maths the children have been learning to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes and in English have been learning about sentence structure and the present tense through the boo ‘The Tin Forest’ by Helen Ward. The children have also been finding out lots of amazing facts about the sun. Did you know, the sun is actually white not yellow and it is our closest star?
Year Four have been publishing their reports all about bees’ honey making process. The writing is full of fascinating facts and beautifully presented in a honeycomb grid. In maths the children have been dividing by 10 and 100 in relation to their decimal learning. In their thematic work, the children have been drawing the features of an Anglo-Saxon settlement and using their sketching skills to create a 3D look.
This week, Year Five have been immersing themselves in the book ‘Hidden Figures’ by Margot Lee Shetterly. This fascinating book tells the incredibly inspiring true story of four black women who helped NASA launch men into space when working for NASA in the 1950s. In their thematic work, they have been learning about Australia and transportation. They have also been looking at longitude and latitude and finding grid references of physical features of Australia. In science the children have been using fruit to understand the relative size of planets in the solar system. Lavender class treated us to a lovely class assembly where they shared some of their learning from the year.
This week, Year Six have been making comparisons between the modern and ancient Olympics and thinking about what we can learn from primary historical sources such as Ancient Greek vases. The children have also been making their final preparations for their upcoming SATs. We wish them all the best next week. Whilst these tests are important and we want them to do well, we also know that in our school we have artists and dancers, sportspeople and musicians, carers and children with numerous other skills and talents that cannot be measured by the blunt instrument of SATs papers.
