What a fantastic week we had last week in Little Cypress! We are learning to be part of a class and to follow the routines of the day with increasing confidence. It has been wonderful to see the children use their negotiation skills to navigate play situations and to begin to learn to share and take turns. Observing even the very youngest children looking after each other and being so kind to our school dog, Seve, has been truly heart-warming.
We have been tackling some tricky fine motor skill activities, which help us in so many ways to develop in a multitude of areas. Whilst as children get older, subjects begin to stand alone, in the Early Years all areas of the curriculum interlink. There are so many reasons to develop both gross and fine motor skills in young children. These skills are essential for independence – fine motor skills are foundational for tasks such as getting dressed and manipulating objects. Early mark making is linked to language and literacy development. Fine motor skills are closely tied to cognitive skills such as problem-solving and memory, which help in early literacy and mathematical awareness. Gross motor skills help children to become more confident, agile and flexible, which in turn assists their social and emotional development. All types of physical development which includes both fine and gross motor skills, are crucial for lifelong health and enjoyment of pushing your body to tackle challenges. To be truly ‘school ready’ it is really important that children have access to a plethora of activities to develop their motor skills.
We hope you all had a wonderful weekend and we look forward to another successful week ahead.
