This week, the children have continued their Beastly Beasties topic by exploring the fascinating book Peep Inside a Beehive. They have learned all about the amazing world of bees, discovering how honey is made, why bees are such important pollinators and the different types of bees that live in a hive. The children were fascinated to find out that every bee has an important role, from the hardworking worker bees to the queen bee and enjoyed discussing how each bee helps the hive to thrive.
In phonics, the children have been consolidating their Phase 4 learning, applying their growing knowledge of sounds to read and write with increasing confidence.
In maths, the focus has been on developing rapid recall of number facts within 10. Through practical activities and games, the children have been building fluency and confidence when recalling number bonds.
During PE, the children learned how to play rounders. They practised throwing, catching and batting skills, while learning the rules of the game and working together as a team.
Yellow Class had a wonderful Forest School session harvesting the potatoes they had grown. The children carefully dug up the potatoes before preparing them for roasting on the fire. They collected sticks to help build the fire and while waiting for the potatoes to cook, enjoyed roasting marshmallows together. Finally, everyone tasted the freshly cooked potatoes with butter and mint—a delicious reward for all of their hard work. What a fantastic outdoor learning experience!
