Year 3 Success at the Pegasus Spelling Bee

Year 3 pupils have been focusing closely on their vocabulary and spelling skills over recent weeks. Following a series of in-class spelling tests, the top qualifiers from each school travelled to Whitehorse Manor Junior School today to take part in the grand final of the Pegasus Spelling Bee.

After succeeding in the initial classroom and year group rounds, three pupils were chosen to represent Cypress Primary School: Zackary, Ahmed and Violaine.

The finalists were accompanied by their classmates, who attended the event to provide moral support and encouragement.

The event was led by Mrs Price, who invited the competitors to the stage to spell challenging Year 3 statutory words aloud in front of the audience. Words such as ‘femur’ and ‘experience’ provided a significant test for the participants.

Throughout the pressure of the competition, all the children demonstrated strong resilience. To help the competitors maintain their concentration, the audience remained quiet during the spelling turns, showing their support by waving banners and cheering silently.

After several rounds of challenging words, the field was narrowed down. Violaine successfully navigated the spellings to reach the final three contestants. Following a precise final round, she secured first place and was named the overall champion of the Pegasus Spelling Bee. We were all so proud of her.

Well done to Zackary, Ahmed and Violaine for their preparation, and congratulations to all the Year 3 pupils who worked hard to improve their spelling throughout the term.
