Welcome back!
This term, we begin our new topic ‘Row Row Row Your Boat’. This week, we have been learning all about rivers. We have read the story “The River” and discussed the different water scenes and the journey the fish goes on. We learnt the new vocabulary; waterfall, sea and river. On Tuesday, it rained so much we had our own waterfall in the outside area! We also explored making our own rivers using the sand and water. On Thursday, everyone made their own fish from the story. We will continue reading this story next week.
In maths, we have been practising our sequencing skills with a focus on using the vocabulary first, then and last. The children have been encouraged to speak in full sentences to describe a routine familiar to them (getting ready for school, brushing teeth, washing hands etc). We also applied our learning to our story time and used sequencing to retell events in the book.
At forest school, we read the story ‘Nature Trail’ and then went on our own mini-beast hunt. The children found; slugs, spiders, wood lice and lots of worms!
Our sound of the week was “w”. On our sound hunt we discovered webs, witches, water and a walrus!
