RNLI Visits EPS

The children in Year 4, 5 & 6 all took part in water safety workshops with the RNLI this week. Water safety is of paramount importance and it can save lives.

The children learned key skills about what to do if they find themselves struggling in water, how to call for help in an emergency and what the different flags indicate.

The key messages are recorded below:

Float to Live

If you find yourself struggling in water:

  1. Tilt your head back, ears submerged.
  2. Relax and try to breathe normally.
  3. Move your hands to help you stay afloat.
  4. It’s OK if your legs sink, we all float differently.
  5. Spread your arms and legs to improve stability.

Beach safety

  1. Choose a lifeguarded beach.
  2. In a coastal emergency, call 999 if you’re in the UK and ask for the coastguard.
  3. Look at the flags
Red-and-yellow beach flag = Lifeguard-patrolled swimming and body boarding zone or lifeguard on duty.
Red beach flag = Dangerous conditions: do not enter the water.
