CYP – Cypress News 17th April

We have enjoyed welcoming back all our children and families back this week.  All the children have come back calm and settled and made an excellent start to the summer term.  It has been lovely chatting to them around the school and on the gates and hearing all their news.

At the Upper School this week, we have been been focusing on being ‘Pegasus People‘.  We have revisited our Pegasus values and thought about how these look in day to day life at school.  In class, we have been aiming to get our name on the Recognition Board by the end of Friday for showing our Pegasus values.  Ms Binks has been very impressed by the number of people she has seen who have been recognised this week.

At the Lower School, we have been looking at how we show we are ‘Proud of ourselves and proud of each other’.  We have shared and taken pride in our achievements and thought about how important it is to also show pride for our friends when they accomplish something.

Poetry Competition Winners Visit Selhurst Park

Our Pegasus sports poetry competition winners recently enjoyed a rewarding visit to Selhurst Park as part of their prize for their creative efforts. During the trip, students were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium, providing them with a closer look at the home of Crystal Palace FC. The group had the opportunity to explore several key areas, including the changing rooms and the players’ tunnel, before heading out to the pitch-side. It was an insightful experience, serving as a fitting celebration of their hard work and poetry achievements.  Thank you to Mrs Manson and Ms Benham for taking the winners.

Reception Rock Stage

Reception are ready to Rock and Roll!  Our brand new Reception Rock Stage officially opened today.  Huge thanks to Ruben’s Dad and Elowyn’s Dad for joining us this morning and leading our opening performance.  Following the donation of a drum kit, our wonderful PTFA funded the wood and then our creative Reception team have been busy painting and transforming the space into our very own stage.  Thanks to the PTFA for their support!  We would be very grateful for any donations of dressing up clothes, wigs, microphones, instruments etc. so please pass these onto the Reception teachers.

Cypress Superstars

It has been a great start to the term with lots of children coming to share their achievements in learning this week.  Congratulations to Lumi in Cedar Class who earnt a second place trophy for her swimming in backstroke over the holidays.  We are really proud of you.  Well done to Freddie in Willow Class who produced an excellent picture book in his Spanish lesson called ‘Andando en la Selva’.  His clues were so good, Ms Binks was able to work out all the animals.   We saw some fantastic work from Dani in Sycamore Class who had produced an interesting fact poster about Saturn in his reading lesson.  Congratulations to Jaydah in Holly Class who came to show her maths work on equivalent fractions.  She had really challenged herself and could explain her learning clearly.

We have been incredibly impressed with children in Indigo class who have shared their amazing homework based on their new topic Africa.  Sofia and Chloe have made stunning models of a giraffe, parrot and flamingo which look so realistic.  George has written some facts and a fantastic African poem and Elias has made a musical African rain shaker.  Atilla has created wonderful posters about African cooking, facts, animals and his family.  We are very impressed!

Next week we will send out Year group newsletters with information and dates for the Summer term.  Please also keep an eye on our website for Cypress diary dates which you can find here.  We wish all our children and families an enjoyable weekend.
