This week, in Reception, the children learned all about medical professionals. On Monday, our class soft toy had a bandage on his head. The children thought about why he might have a bandage and who might have put it on him. They shared times when we had been ill and needed somebody to help us. The children discussed who those people have been and what they have done to treat our ailments. The children listened to the story of ‘Zog and the Flying Doctor’ by Julia Donaldson and practised using some of the medical vocabulary found in the book, such as ‘stethoscope’.
On Wednesday, we were very lucky to have Dr Sophie and Dr Rhea visiting to tell us about their jobs. They taught us how doctors support people and what tools and medicines they use. The children learned so much and applied their knowledge straight away by writing prescriptions and role-playing being doctors. Thank you Sophie and Rhea for giving up your time to visit us.
On Thursday, vet Katie came in to tell us all about being a vet. The children learned that a vet is like a doctor, dentist and nurse all wrapped into one for animals. They had fun trying to identify different animals from their x-rays. They got the opportunity to explore the different tools vets use, such as stethoscopes and bandages. Thank you vet Katie for giving up your time.
In mathematics, the children have been learning about the composition of 7. The have investigated how to find all of the number bonds (two amounts that add up to a given amount) to 7.
In phonics, the children have been practicing spelling the phase two tricky words. They have also been learning how to read longer words with two or more digraphs in them.
In PE, the children have continued with their gymnastics skills. This week they learned about different ways to jump and how to land safely.
