ATW Reception News – Supertato and Book Week

It has been a busy week in Reception! The children continued learning about the topic, ‘To The Rescue!’ and the story, ‘Supertato!’ was introduced. The children came up with many thoughts of how to trap the Evil Pea (the main villain in the book) and enjoyed acting out these ideas.  The children had fun making their own Supertato using real potatoes and other things to decorate them.
As this week has been World Book Week, the children have engaged in lots of activities to celebrate reading. On Monday, they had a workshop with the author, James Sellick. He was very engaging and talked to the children all about their different emotions and what they can do to calm themselves if they feel overwhelmed.  On Friday, we had a full-on day of celebrating World Book Day! The children enjoyed showing off the costumes they had come in wearing, and we read many of the books that their characters were in.  The year 4 reading buddies came to visit, and the joy of reading was shared.  On Friday, Reception’s first Reading Cafe was held.  We were overjoyed with the attendance of parents and carers.  Thank you for taking time to come in and help share the love of reading.
Reception furthered their learning about healthy food by taste testing lots of different fruits and vegetables.  They planted their potatoes that they have been chitting over the last few weeks, and are looking foreward to roasting them on a fire in Forest School at the end of the summer term.  We will be planting good (not evil) peas on Monday.  If you have any spare seed packets that you do not need, please hand them to Reception.
Yellow class enjoyed getting back to Forest School.  Red Class will have its session doing this next week.
