At the Upper School this week, we have been focusing on showing good manners. We have considered different ways we can show we are polite. This may include holding doors open for people, saying ‘Good Morning’ to the adults on the gate and supporting the other children in our class who need help. We have also been thinking about compassion and how we can show this towards each other. In assembly, we looked at the story of ‘The Good Samaritan’ and discussed the impact not showing compassion to others.
At the Lower School we have been thinking about one of our Pegasus school values, ‘We care’. We have considered who cares for us, who we care for and how we can show others that we care for them. We have also been talking about our upcoming Book Week and getting very excited about our visiting authors, events and dress-up day!
Holly Class Assembly
We started the day at the Upper School, with a brilliant assembly from Holly Class. The children showcased their recent learning from their English lessons about ‘Cinderella’. The children acted out the story showing fantastic drama skills and prosody. They then shared different versions of Cinderella where the story has been changed. We also heard some fantastic examples of ‘twisted’ versions of this traditional tale written by the children. Holly Class linked to our theme ‘Compassion’ by explaining how Cinderella’s family could have treated her more kindly. They ended the assembly with a performance of the song ‘This is Me!’ Well done to all the children for their performance and Miss Prideaux and Miss Mills for you hard work preparing the children for the assembly. Thank you also to all our parents and carers who were able to join us this morning. It was lovely to see so many of you supporting the children.
Year 4 and 5 Bikeability
This week it has been the turn of Year 4 and 5 to take part in ‘Bikeability’. The children have been learning the key skills and how to be safe. They have made excellent progress in their learning. Well done to all the children who have taken part and thank you to Ms Dodd and Ms Chira for organising the event.
Visit from police dogs
As part of our ‘People who help us’ topic, Reception welcomed PC Jon into school with his police dog Rumour. The children learnt all about Rumour and how PC Jon works with him to keep us all safe in the community. We were very impressed with the children’s curiosity and the questions they asked to find out more. We then had a very exciting assembly for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and welcomed Rumour into the hall at the end.
Year 1 toy workshops
Year 1 have enjoyed two wonderful workshops this week based on their current topic ‘Toys’. Inspired by their workshops, the children have then produced some fantastic writing about their favourite toys and included some fun facts. Click here to find out more!
Book Week
Cypress Primary School always has a jam-packed timetable of events, activities and authors and next week is set to be our best year yet! We have authors visiting every year group, book signings/ sales, assemblies, parent reading sessions, buddy reading and of course our very popular Scholastic Book Fair which will be held at the Upper School (open for everyone). Huge thanks to our wonderful PTFA for their support funding many of our author visits. Please click here for our Book Week newsletter for more details and remember that next Thursday 5th March is World Book Day, where children (and staff!) are invited to dress-up as their favourite book character or wear their pyjamas for a cosy day of reading.
Cypress Superstars
Well done to Sylvia, Gabriel and Una in Indigo Class for their fantastic writing based on their favourite toys. They used their sounds well and tried very hard to include finger spaces and neat handwriting – well done! Mia, Peter and Xian in Turquoise Class have impressed us all, focusing on decoding and prosody in their Reading Practice text ‘Stunt Jets’. Nancy in Violet Class has completed some excellent independent work in maths, when learning about analogue time. Well done to David in Cedar Class who came to share his excellent, independent maths work. Congratulations to Stanley in Cedar Class who came to show his multiplication using the grid method. We were very impressed that he could explain the method so clearly. Well to Jaydah in Holly Class who came to share her super maths work. We are very proud of the progress you have made.
We wish all of our children and families a good weekend.
