ATW Nursery News – 27th February

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a lovely half term. This week in nursery, we have been learning about the Lunar New Year. We read the story of the 12 animals of the zodiac and watched a video of how people celebrate. The children loved the dragon and lions and decided to make their own. In the classroom, the children also role played their own festival parade and followed the dragon around using plates and tomatoes for drums!

We have now begun our new topic “Round and Round the Garden” and introduced the story ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’. We will continue reading this story next week. This topic will explore changes in our outside world, planting, lifecycles and creepy crawlies!

We were very excited to return back to forest school this week and what lovely weather we had too! At forest school, we read ‘Jack and the beanstalk’ and then went hunting for our own beanstalk sticks. We compared the length of our sticks then stuck them into the ground (in height order), making our very own beanstalks!

In maths, we have begun numeral recognition. This week, the focus was 1. The children were encouraged to find 1 amount of different things and we practised writing the number 1. We also revisited our jelly on the plate song from the start of the year.

Our sound of the week was ‘e’. We found eggs, elephants, envelopes and elbows!!!
