Yesterday, the hall at Cypress Upper was magically transformed into the misty, mysterious Scottish Highlands. The brilliant Sky Arts Theatre Company paid a special visit to Year 6, for an unforgettable Shakespeare workshop!
Bringing the 400-year-old play to life, the talented team from Sky Arts guided the children through the thrilling—and slightly spooky—story of Macbeth. Year 6 experienced a fully immersive theatrical adventure that made the classic tale of ambition, witches, and kings jump right off the page.
The workshop was fun and interactive – several lucky students were chosen to step into the spotlight.
From crazy witches’ wigs to Fraser transforming into King Duncan himself, the energy in the room was electric and everyone agreed it was an incredibly fun English lesson! The session ended with two lucky actors receiving a certificate for their fantastic performance. These were awarded to Nevaeh & Leo in Larch Class for playing the roles of Lady Macbeth & Macduff. Well done!
The workshop has proven to be an amazing immersive experience into the Year 6’s English curriculum. By acting out the story and hearing the language spoken aloud with emotion and action, the complex plot of Macbeth suddenly made perfect sense. The immersive experience helped the students understand the characters’ motivations and the tricky Shakespearean language, giving everyone a massive boost of confidence for their upcoming reading and writing lessons.
A huge thank you to Sky Arts Theatre Company for a spectacular day of drama and learning!
