A somewhat abridged newsletter as the school succumbs to the Festive Season. So far, we have had seven out of the nine Christmas shows that we are presenting this year. The children have been in excellent form and it has been lovely to see so many parents and grandparents turning up for the shows. Today, we have had our Christmas lunch and all of the children looked great in their Christmas jumpers.
The Reception and Nursery children have entertained their parents with their Christmas concerts this week. The children did a brilliant job. The singing was amazing and the children were so brave performing in front of an audience.
In Nursery, the children have been learning about colours and the number 3

Also in Reception, the children have been reading ‘Granny goes to Market’
In English this week, Year One have started their fact file about the first Moon landing. When writing, the children ensured they used capital letters and full stops. During maths, they represented the numbers 11-15 using a variety of manipulatives such as straws, Numicon and cubes. Year 1 completed their learning about their senses this week by investigating their sense of taste. The children tasted different food and decided on the taste it represented. At the end of the lesson, the children discussed which taste was easiest to identify and gave a reason for their answer. In geography, Year 1 used photos to observe how the area had changed. They also talked about why a black and white photo doesn’t necessarily mean the photo has been taken in the past. The children were very excited this week to create their moon buggy with an axle and wheels. After they had made it, they couldn’t wait to see whether their moon buggy would move!
In Year Two the children have been working hard in rehearsals in preparation for their nativity next week. They have also been writing about Henry VIII and learning all about continents and oceans.
Across key stage Two, the focus this week has been on Christmas performances. Each class delivered show stopping songs. The singing was beautiful with some lovely solos and great dance moves to accompany their tunes. We were also treated to a festive selection of piano recitals from an amazingly talented selection of children. The children can all feel incredibly proud of the work they have put in to really bring Christmas alive at Atwood.
FOAP Christmas Fair
Many thanks to everyone who volunteered and helped out at the Christmas fair last Friday. The fair was very well attended and although we don’t have a final figure yet, the event will have raised vital funds for the school so thank you if you came along and spent some pennies. If you want to support the school further, why not buy same raffle tickets? We have lots of great prizes from local businesses. Tickets can be bought through the link. https://buytickets.at/foap/1976655
Christmas Lunch
Many thanks to Harrisons who served us a delicious Christmas lunch today. The hall looked very cheery with Christmas table cloths and all the children had been busty decorating crowns. The food was lovely and the desert table with a spectacular choice of treats was especially popular.
