The thematic learning this half term relates to ‘Our Amazing World’. The children have been sharing how they get to school and have created fantastic maps to illustrate their route. It is wonderful to see how confident they are becoming when talking in front of their own classes, which is both brave and shows how comfortable they have become since starting in September. This week, the story “Naughty Bus” by Jan and Jerry Oke was introduced. The children quickly worked out that it wasn’t actually the bus that was being naughty, but it was the driver, the little boy. They have been demonstrating their phonics learning by writing captions for images from the book. Everybody has been getting crafty with both 2D and 3D buses being made in the inside and outside spaces!
As this week is Friendship Week, the children have been celebrating the new friendships they have made since joining Reception at the beginning of September. Teamwork and kindness have been a focus. They thought about what makes a good friend and what they could do to help create an even better family of Reception children.
On Tuesday, it was Remembrance day. The children all stood in a circle in the outdoor area and took two minutes to silently give thanks for all of the things they have due to the courageous efforts of those soldiers who fought and dies so we could live with the freedoms we do.
In phonics, the GPCs ‘ff’, ‘ll’, ‘ss’ and ‘j’ have been introduced along with the tricky words ‘put’, ‘pull’, ‘full’ and ‘as’. In mathematics, the children have been developing their understanding of the composition of numbers by really thinking about how things are made up of parts to make a whole.
