This week, the school rounded off the week in a riot of colour as the children came dressed to impress and celebrate their cultural heritage as part of out International Day fundraising event. There has also been lots of other learning going on.
In Nursery, the children have been learning about transport, growing and the letter or sound ‘F’.

This week, Reception have been reading The Billy Goats Gruff and making six. You can read more here:
This week, Year One have been planning out their own stories about how different African animals got their distinctive features, such as ‘How Leopard got his spots.’ After planning the story, the children have been writing the first sentences of the story using exclamation and question marks. In maths, they have been comparing numbers up to 100 as well as partitioning them into tens and ones. They also looked at the artwork of Edward Tingatinga and began creating a piece of work in the style of his work. Finally, the children shared their knowledge of the continent of Africa and thought about what they wanted to find out about it for their thematic topic.
Year Two have been busy building excellent sentences for their own versions of Rosie’s Magic Horse. They have been using adjectives to describe their own stick creations such as Flutterrino and Lionerino! The children have started looking at analogue clocks in Maths and learning about o’clock times. In PE the children have been racing and thinking about their running technique and in their thematic curriculum they have been learning about the features of a seaside. Orange class have also been busy preparing for their class assembly which they treated us to today.
This week, in Year Three the children have continued their mystery story writing including prepositions and fronted adverbials. In maths, the children have been using analogue clocks to learn about ‘half past’, ‘quarter past’ and ‘quarter to’ times. In science, the children have been studying shadows and learnt that the moon is not a source of light but that it reflects the light of the sun. The children also learnt that shadows always fall behind on object that is between it and the sun.
Year Four have been using their number skills when writing about how bees make honey. They have been thinking carefully about appropriate adjectives and adverbs and carefully selecting the verbs they use. In their science lessons, the children have started learning about the digestive system and they have also been studying what an Anglo-Saxon settlement would look like.
This week, Year Five have published and performed their own versions of nonsense poetry based on The Jabberwocky. They have had to think carefully about making their own vocabulary and choosing words that would make good verbs or nouns. In maths, the children have been comparing fractions, decimals and percentages and thinking about equivalents. In their thematic work they have been learning about the journey that people undertook if they were punished with transportation.
This week, Year Six have continued to revise a range of maths topics in preparation for their SATs. They have also been writing a fight scene between Torak and Hord based on their Wolf Brother class text. In their study of Ancient Greece the children have been learning about many of the Greek artefacts that help us to understand this period of history and in RE they have been learning about the five pillars of Islam.
Singing assemblies
Every week, as part of our enrichment programme, the children have a singing assembly with Miss Bartlett. The opportunity to come together and sing in a group offers a wide range of benefits for both mental and physical well-being, including reduced stress, improved mood, enhanced social connection, and even some physical health improvements. Singing in unison can apparently promote a sense of community and belonging, boost self-esteem, and strengthen the immune system. Perhaps most importantly, the children enjoy it and they sound fantastic. Have a listen to the attached audio files and see what you think of Year 4 and 6s efforts.
And finally…
It was lovely to se the children dressed in such a wide variety of outfits, costumes and traditional dress for today’s International Day fundraiser. It was a lovely way to celebrate the range of cultural heritage we have in the school while at the same time raising money for the AT society. Many thanks to everyone who took part and donated. So far, this event has raised £440 pounds but is not too late to contribute if you still wish to. This can be done on line through the link:
