On Monday, Year 1 had a fantastic time taking part in an African dance workshop.
To begin the session, the children learned some interesting facts about Africa. Did you know there are 54 countries in Africa? Year 1 also enjoyed looking at African tribal masks which sparked lots of curiosity and discussion.
Throughout the morning, the children listened to a range of African music and had great fun moving their bodies to the different rhythms. After a warm-up, they began learning a dance routine, picking up the steps with enthusiasm. They even added a ‘canon’ to their performance where movements were repeated in sequence, creating a really impressive effect.
The session finished with a relaxing cool-down, including stretches and calming music. Both the children (and staff!) really enjoyed the workshop. It was a great morning and a fantastic way to explore music and dance from Africa.
