ATW – Trip to the Local Park

Last Tuesday, Year 1 set off on an exciting walk to Sanderstead Recreation Ground to identify human and physical features in their local area.  As they walked to the park, the children discovered many examples of human features around Sanderstead, including Waitrose, Costa and the petrol station.  Year 1 also enjoyed observing a variety of the signs of autumn, linking their discoveries to this term’s science topic ‘seasonal changes’.  Did you know that in autumn the leaves on some trees change colour (red, orange or brown) and then fall off of the trees?  During the trip, there was an opportunity for the children to play on the apparatus in the park.  Everyone had lots of fun exploring the local area and discussed their findings on their way back to school.  On their return, the children built on their learning by drawing their own map to show the route they took to the park.  It was wonderful to see their finished creations!
