This week in Reception, we have been exploring the story Billy and the Beast. The children have enjoyed listening to the story and joining in with repeated phrases and actions. We talked about the characters, the setting, and the problem in the story, thinking carefully about how Billy shows bravery and kindness. The children retold the story using story maps, sequencing pictures, and role play. These activities help develop speaking and listening skills, confidence, and early storytelling and writing. At home, you could ask your child to retell the story or talk about their favourite part.
In maths this week we have been learning about more, fewer and equal. The children explored comparing groups of objects using practical resources such as cubes, counters and toys. We counted carefully, matched objects one to one, and talked about which group had more or fewer. The children also learned that equal means the same amount. Through games, songs and small group activities, the children built confidence using number language and explaining their thinking. At home, you could support learning by comparing groups of toys, snacks or steps and talking about which has more, fewer or the same amounts.
We had our museum day this week, and the children loved showing their parents their monster writing and the monsters they created. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.
