ATW Reception News – What an eggcellent surprise!

On Tuesday, an incubator containing five eggs arrived in Reception. The children learned about what sort of animals laid eggs then made predictions about what might be growing inside our ones. Crocodiles, chicks and ostriches were the dominant guesses so everyone was surprised when ducklings started hatching out of the eggs on Thursday. The children have been busy learning how to look after our feathery friends. They have created posters to remind people to use quiet voices around them, keep their hands away from the cage and not to put anything in the cage as this could harm the baby ducklings. They have learned lots of things about ducks and created amazing posters to share their knowledge about these wonderful creatures.

Thank you to the FOAP who have kindly paid for this experience for the children.  So much learning comes from these moments of awe and wonder, we really appreciate their support.

Our tadpoles and pea plants have been growing and the children got stuck in with helping clean the tadpoles’ tank and planting the peas in the garden area.

In phonics, the children have been learning how to read longer words, such as forest, handstand and chimpanzee! They have been taught the new tricky words: there; when; what and one.
