What a wonderful week we have had in Reception as we continued our ‘Once Upon a Time…’ topic!
The children have been exploring the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. They thoroughly enjoyed acting out the tale and worked hard to learn the sequence by creating their own story maps. Using their fantastic imaginations, the children then adapted the story by changing the villain. We had some very creative ideas, including an ‘evil cake’ and even a T-Rex! The children were so proud to write their own versions of the story with these exciting twists.
In phonics, we have been focusing on reading CCVCC words, and the children have shown great progress with this. They have also been practising their spelling and working hard to write simple sentences independently. Our new tricky words this week are were, here, little and says.
In maths, we have been using the song Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed to help embed our knowledge of number bonds to five. The children have also been practising rapidly recalling the double facts they learned last week.
We have made the most of the lovely weather and spent time planting in our growing area. The children have really enjoyed getting their hands dirty and learning about how things grow.
