This week, the children have been enjoying the wonderful story Superworm by Julia Donaldson. Before reading the story, the children made thoughtful predictions about what they thought might happen and used their imaginations to create their own cunning plans to rescue Superworm from danger. They loved sharing their creative ideas with one another!
The children have also been busy being worm artists, creating beautiful spiral artwork inspired by the story, as well as exploring a range of messy play materials. With the lovely weather, the outdoor area has been full of excitement as the children became bug hunters, carefully searching for and observing the fascinating minibeasts living around our school grounds.
One of the highlights of the week was saying goodbye to our caterpillars. After watching them grow and transform, the children were delighted to see them emerge as beautiful butterflies. The butterflies were released into the garden, where the children wished them lots of luck as they continued the next stage of their amazing life cycle. The children have also continued to develop their understanding of life cycles by closely observing our tadpoles as they grow and change into froglets.
In Forest School, the children have been making flags using natural items to dye the fabric. They started by whittling the willow sticks to create the flag poles. They then found flowers and leaves to use to dye their fabric. They did this by hammering the found items between the fabric to release the natural dyes.
In Phonics, the children have been reading words with the suffixes -er and -est, building their confidence in recognising and reading these root words with new endings.
In Maths, the children have been developing their rapid recall of number bonds to 5 and 10, using games and practical activities to strengthen their fluency and confidence.
It has been another busy week of exploring, creating and learning, and the children should be very proud of all they have achieved.
