ATW Reception News – ducks, ducks and more ducks!

This week in Reception, the children continued their learning about the duck life cycle, observing how the ducklings have been changing over time and learning how to care for them properly. The children showed great curiosity and asked thoughtful questions such as, “Do they have teeth?” and “How do they hear?” Together, we researched the answers using information books and the internet.

The children have been incredibly gentle and caring while handling the ducklings and have been very responsible about washing their hands with soap afterwards to help prevent the spread of germs.

On Friday, the ducklings returned to the farm where they came from, where they can now enjoy running around the fields with all of their brothers and sisters.

A huge thank you goes to the FOAP for all of their hard work in raising money to provide wonderful experiences like this for the children.

In phonics, the children have been learning to read longer words containing the suffixes -ing, -ed and -est, such as plumpest, trusted and squelching.

In mathematics, the children have been developing their understanding of “less than” by extending their learning to find two less than a given number.
