This half term, the Reception children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring their exciting topic, “To The Rescue!” To bring their learning to a close, they focused on the story Croc Goes to the Dentist by Sue Graves. The children enthusiastically recounted their own experiences of visiting the dentist and took part in imaginative role play, pretending to be dentists. They carefully carried out “check-ups” on puppets and recorded their findings, just like real professionals. They also practised brushing teeth correctly and learned the importance of brushing twice a day for two minutes, as well as visiting the dentist twice a year.
To end the week, the children learned about the Christian festival of Easter. They explored the meaning behind Easter traditions, including chocolate eggs and bunnies. They were delighted when the Easter Bunny visited and had great fun taking part in an exciting Easter rubber duck hunt.
As part of Maths Week, the children enjoyed a carousel of engaging maths games and songs. They continued to consolidate their understanding of doubles and practiced recalling doubles to ten with increasing confidence. They also sorted objects using different criteria and were introduced to the concepts of odd and even numbers.
In Phonics, the children celebrated completing Phase 3. This week, they were introduced to compound words and explored plural words where the ‘s’ makes a ‘z’ sound, such as in “torches.” They showed great enthusiasm and growing confidence in their reading and word recognition skills.
It has been a busy and enjoyable end to a fantastic half term of learning!
